Raising children and teenagers today comes with challenges that didn’t exist a generation ago. From social pressure in school to the influence of digital media and peer groups, young minds are constantly navigating situations where they are expected to fit in—even when it doesn’t feel right.

“I never knew my past was affecting my parenting!” - This is one of the most common things parents say when they begin to reflect more deeply on their parenting experiences. Many parents start to realise that their own childhood experiences influence how they respond to their child’s behaviour today.

My son has always been a clingy child. He has always wanted me -or his father - around for everything. (Parents, I know you can relate!) I never thought it was possible for him to play by himself, let alone without my involvement.

Toddler hitting behaviour can feel alarming, confusing, and emotionally exhausting for parents , but it is also developmentally common. Human beings do not fully develop the brain capacity needed to regulate impulses and manage big emotions until around 25–26 years of age. The part of the brain responsible for impulse control, emotional regulation, and socially appropriate responses is the frontal lobe, and in toddlers, this area is still very much under construction.

The purpose of these exercises is to equip our kids with the tools to lower their heart rate, regulate their breath, and help them calm down faster. Breathing mindfully sends a message of calm to the brain.
